This week was hectic and involved a lot of fun and stressful things. I did 3 daily creates that involved a lot of drawing and creativity. The first was a picture of batman. It was fun to make but I did have trouble making the bat symbol. The second daily create was to alter a tree. I decided to use a picture of a tree from my freshman year of college. The last daily create was about an encounter with a stranger. I decided to use this opportunity to change over to my characters voice and talk about his experience with a stranger.
One of the assignments this week was to create an interview with your character. I’m a girl and my character is a guy so I went into my bathroom with a lamp and a hoody and filmed in the dark. It was cool to answer questions and let everyone see my character.
I commented on people’s posts this week. I liked seeing all the video assignments people had made. I wasn’t doing the assignments this week because of the video show so it was interesting to see what others were doing.
And finally, I did a the video project. The project was really fun but took a lot of time to get everything together. It was awesome working with some of my radio show group again. My video post can be found here.
For my final unit choice, I will be working alone because of some of my final projects in other classes. The time I have available would decrease and I don’t want to bring down my team because of it. So, I think it would be best for me to finish the final by myself.
Overall, this week was fun. I am still trying to change over to my character’s voice and will begin tweeting soon. I’m not sure if daily creates should be in my character’s voice or every assignments overall. It would be interesting to see how my character would respond to every new thing in ds106.
My group decided to do the video show for our project for the past two weeks. The first week I did a trailer and we created the script. This week was the filming of the show. The show was really fun to do with some of my radio show group. We started out with a few different concepts but ultimately decided on a concept opposite to the Charlie’s Angels. We called it the Dexter’s Devils. We have three girls and one guys in the groups so we thought it would be cool to have a detective try to get three girls that were committing crimes in his town. The show was a lot of fun and I got to explore my character as a girl and a person that committed a lot of crimes.
We had a couple problems with filming. We did most of it on Friday and Saturday. We film in different places around downtown Fredericksburg for multiple scenes including my death scene. We also filmed around the school. We wore all black and made the video black and white for noir themes. My character was Lukas Jones but for the show we changed it to Lucy Jones. We had some issues getting the video up on Sunday night because of uploading lengths but we were eventually able to get the video up. I was an actor and I did some voice overs for the show. Patrick did a lot of editing for the show and I edited for the jewelry store scene.
Overall, the project got hard at times because of the problems we had with meeting with each other. However, it was
exciting to try acting. I haven’t acted a lot before. If I do, it is usually in audio posts. It as fun working with the group for the last time and I hope they do awesome on a final project if they choose to work together again.
For this week, I was participating in the video project. I didn’t do any of the video assignments so it was fun to see everyone else’s assignments. Here are the links to the people I commented on.

I’m glad I could get this out. I’m sorry about the space. I did what I could with the stuff I had. Aquia Maxius sort of killed the mood. I’m sorry I was so angry. It’s just they have been ruining everything. Overall, I give your interview a 10 out of 10. I enjoyed your questions and would do this again.
I liked creating this. I had a few problems in that my character is a guy and I’m a girl. I thought it would be interesting if I turned off all the lights in my bathroom and used my red gummy bear lamp as lighting. I covered most of my face with my hoody and turned the camera on. I got the camera from the ITCC. It was really easy to record with it. I had written down all the questions and wanted to present it in a way my character would do it. Because of this, I thought it would be interesting if he had seen the questions and didn’t have time to respond. So, he wrote them down and responded later. I mixed the interview questions with my character reading the questions he had chosen. I edited everything together using Windows Live Movie Maker. I hope you enjoy
So, to start off this story, I just wanted to say that I needed the car. Okay. It was necessary. I was doing a mission and the guy got in a car. So, naturally I had to follow him somehow. I approached a guy standing outside of his car. He was about to get in. Honestly, I did fell guilty. I could see he had somewhere to go but so did I. I had to get his car. So, I didn’t push him over but did something different. I grabbed the keys and took him with me. “Get in the car, passengers side”, I yelled at him. He was startled and ran to the passengers side. “What are you doing”, he asked, looking very scared. “Look, I just need this for a little bit”. He said okay and we drove on. I was driving pretty fast and we got to the guy. I was able to take the robbing jerk away and the guy I took the car from seemed to find the whole thing fun. So, see I’m a good person and don’t do bad things. Well, except for that one time. The first guy I stole a car from had a really nice car. I kinda kept it for a bit, probably 2 or 3 months.I gave it back. Okay, so maybe I’m a partially good person.
I wanted to use this daily create about talking to strangers to get more into the voice of my character. I’m not sure if daily creates should be in the voice of our characters but I wanted to try it. I don’t personally have a story that I remember about talking to a stranger so doing my character was a good way to make things more interesting. Hope you enjoy!
Thursday, we were supposed to change the image of a tree and make it more artistic. I used fotoflexer to alter the photo. I took a picture a while back and decided to use that. I changed it so that it looks separated and sorta like puzzle pieces.
On Tuesday, we had to draw Batman in 15 second. I got a pencil and a paper and went to town. Good thing it was a relatively slow day and I could spare 15 seconds. Hope you like my Batman.
Well, I gotta say, it was a fun ride. I tried a lot of new things. I was even a murderer and a lady thief in two different cases. But, I’ve got a good team right here, so I don’t think I’ll be working with any ds106 friends for this final assignment. I’ll work hard and make this the best final ride you’ll ever see. Get excited.
This week was a mix of easy and complicated. For this week, we had the choice of completing video assignments or making a video show with groups. Some of my radio show group decided we would make a video show. We met a lot on twitter and Google Docs to discuss ideas and finally picked one. We have most if not all of the script done and a few filming locations picked out already. We just have to meet and film everything together.
Besides the video show project, I listen to our radio show on Thursday and commented on the show directly after mine.
My show was called Dinner Party at Six and it was really fun to make. I was part of the Skype call at the beginning which was interesting and I saw everyone’s opinions about the show on twitter. The rest of my feelings towards the show can be found in my radio show reflection. After reflecting on my own show, I listened to another show. The show I listened to was called the Noir Buzz. The show was really well done for only having to people and they seemed to have a good grasp on audio editing. Here are my full thoughts on the show.
I complete two daily creates for this week. They were a part 1/ part 2 of each other. One involved creating a rainy day poem and the other involved reading that poem aloud.
One of the hardest parts about this week was creating the video essay. I did my essay on the movie Notorious by Alfred Hitchcock. The movie was about a man that was making a women seduce a man because they believed he was a Nazi. We were supposed to read and watch multiple works about cinematic techniques and apply our knowledge to a scene in the movie. I used the scene were Grant is telling Bergman about his plan for her. I explained the cinematic techniques as they related to an article I read.
It was hard to make the video because I didn’t have any experience in editing videos but it was helpful to look at the guide that was on the Week 9 blog post. I used Window Live Movie Maker and then recorded my voice on my computer and mixed the two.
The last thing I did this week was make a trailer for my video show. We decided as a group to each make trailer that centered around our characters. I made mine using clips I found on YouTube and centered it around her back story.
I made the video with Windows Live Movie Maker and then recorded my voice over top of it.
Overall, the week was fun and I liked working with my groups again. Hopefully, the filming will go smoothly next week. I feel more confident about editing videos because of the videos I did this week so hopefully I can help more with my video show.
Note: Here is a link to my characters page on my site.
4 out of the 6 people in my radio show group including myself decided we wanted to create some sort of video show. We had all sorts of ideas lined up but at the end we found one. We had a lot of interaction on twitter and Google Docs to go over our ideas and meeting times.
We have three girls and one guy in our groups so we thought that this was similar to Charlie’s Angels. We decided to put a spin on the idea. Instead of the characters solving crimes, we would have them doing the crimes. The characters would be the opposite of the Charlie’s Angels. The one guy in our group would be the detective on a mission to capture us and put us in jail. The whole short film would be us causing trouble in the city while the detective tries to find us and take us away or even kill us. Me and another girl in my group both have guy characters. Her character is more on the evil/ thug side but mine is more of an antihero. We decided we would slightly change our characters from girl to guy but still try to keep the personalities the same. We have the script written out and have meeting times set up. One of the scenes involves a bar so we have gotten permission to film in a bar downtown. We have everything mostly set up, we just have to get to filming it. It is going to be very fun and I’m excited.
The trailer I did for the video is surrounding my character’s back story and how she got into crime. I used clips from a few different movie trailers and videos I found on YouTube. I then added a voice over with my own voice.
